China to build three hydropower stations in Karze, Sichuan Province

(TibetanReview.net, Apr 04, 2009) — The No. 7 Sino-Hydro Bureau Co. Ltd is to spend 3.8 billion yuan to develop hydropower resources in Ganzi (Tibetan: Karze) Prefecture of Sichuan Province, reported China’s official Xinhuanet news service Apr 2. The report cited Zhang Jianwen, general manager of the Bureau, as saying the fund would be used to complete the second phrase of the Jiulong River basin project and to set up three hydroelectric stations with a total installed capacity of 494 mw in the area.

The loan for the projects will be provided by the China Construction Bank and four other banks under an agreement signed in the provincial capital Chengdu on Apr 1.
