(TibetanReview.net, May17, 2018) – President Lobsang Sangay of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) at Dharamshala, India, has visited the German Parliament over May 14-15, meeting with its Vice President Claudia Roth and testifying before the parliament’s human rights subcommittee, ahead of concluding his five-day visit to Frankfurt and Berlin.

Speaking before the subcommittee on May 15, he has sought to debunk China’s claim about Tibetans being happy under its rule by pointing to the total of 152 self-immolations that had taken place there since Feb 2009. He has called the exile administration’s decades-old policy of seeking regional autonomy, not independence, for Tibet under Chinese rule the “only viable solution to the Sino-Tibet issue”.

Earlier, on May 14, the CTA President was welcomed to the parliament by its Vice President Claudia Roth. She has said China needed to be stopped from using its influence to pressure governments, ministers, and industries, adding “We cannot allow the repression of the Tibetan people and their religion”.

While in the parliament, President Sangay was also stated to have attended a meeting of its Tibet Interest Group (TIG) grouping on May 14.
