(TibetanReview.net, May27, 2015) – The exile Tibetan administration at Dharamshala, India, has on May 25 announced the institution of two annual awards to encourage entrepreneurship among exile Tibetans. The two awards – the ‘Sikyong Entrepreneur of Year Award’ and ‘Investment Award for Up and Coming Entrepreneurs’ – was launched at a press conference by the Tibetan Entrepreneurship Development (TED), an initiative of the exile administration’s Department of Finance, in partnership with the Dalai Lama Foundation in Canada.

The ‘Sikyong Entrepreneur of the Year’ award of INR 21,00,000 will be presented to a Tibetan entrepreneur in recognition of his or her contribution to the community and to encourage other Tibetans to step forward and become involved in the socio-economic health of the Tibetan community, said the exile administration on its Tibet.net website May 25.

The ‘Investment Award for Up and Coming Entrepreneurs’ in the amount of INR 15,00,000 will be awarded to two or three would-be entrepreneurs who have great business ideas but lack financial support to implement them.

The winners in both the categories will be selected through a competitive process that distinguishes transformative entrepreneurs who are innovative, driving large-scale change, and are poised to make an even greater impact in the Tibetan community, said the Tibet.net statement.

This year’s winners will be announced in Sep 2015.
