Exile Tibetan leader calls on new Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister

(TibetanReview.net, Jan10, 2018) – The head of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) at Dharamshala, India, Sikyong Lobsang Sangay, has on Jan 9 made a courtesy call on the newly elected Chief Minister Mr Jairan Thakur of Himachal Pradesh, joined by the CTA’s Finance Kalon (minister) Mr Karma Yeshi. The meeting, lasting some 15 minutes, took place in the local Circuit House where the chief minister was staying.

The chief minister was stated to have expressed a wish to call on the Dalai Lama, which Dr Lobsang Sangay has said he will convey to the exiled spiritual leader of Tibet who is currently at Bodh Gaya, Bihar state, giving a series of religious teachings.

The chief minister was stated to be accompanied by the Chief Secretary and several of his ministers, including Mr Kishan Kapoor, the local MLA and the state’s minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affair Minister; Ms Sarveen Chaudhary, the Urban Development Minister; Mr Bikram Singh, the Industries Minister; Mr Vipin Singh Parmar, the Health and Family Welfare Minister; Mr Rajiv Saizal, Social Justice & Empowerment Minister, besides others.

Following the meeting, Dr Lobsang Sangay has said, “The previous BJP governments have always supported the Tibetan people and we hope the support will continue. One of the ministers assured us that everything that needs to be done for the Tibetan people will be continued from the new government.”
