(TibetanReview.net, Feb 2) – The government of Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) spent 4.7 billion yuan last year, including 1.25 billion yuan on projects in rural areas, to build roads that provided access to 46 towns and 504 villages more, reported China’s official Xinhua news agency Jan 31. It said 13 passenger stations and 78 bus stops were also built in rural areas to facilitate travels by farmers and herders.

The report claimed that road building projects added at least 500 million yuan (US $73.1 million) to the income of farmers and herders last year.

The report said 85 percent of the TAR’s 2.88 million population were farmers and herders.
