Four jailed for up to 3 yrs in Nagchu

(TibetanReview.net, Jan29, 2010)  Four Tibetans have been sentenced to jail terms of one to three years by the Sog County court in Nagchu Prefecture of Tibet Autonomous Region, reported Phayul.com Jan 28, citing an exile man from the area. The report did not say when or why they were sentenced, although it was apparently not for any offence that is generally accepted as crime in a democratic system.

The four, all Sog residents, have been named as Yeshi Jinpa, 44, a monk of Sog Tsenden monastery; Tenzin Dhargay, 21; Norbu Sangpo, 17, and Choedon, 48, a nun. The first two have been jailed for two and three years, respectively, and the last two to one year each.

All were arrested on Dec 2, 2009 from Lhasa.

Yeshi had earlier gone to Lhasa for medical treatment, with Dhargay having apparently accompanied him to help him. The two were offering religious prostrations at the Jokhang Temple on Dec 2 while Norbu and Choedon had come to the city to deliver food to them.

Dhargay was previously said to have been jailed for three years for raising slogans calling for Tibet’s independence, although he was later released after Choedon paid a large sum of money for the purpose.
