China takes Kashmir off India

(TibetanReview.net, Oct23, 2009) China’s policy of issuing visas to applicants from Kashmir on a loose sheet of paper rather than on their Indian passports, it turns out, is in line with its broader policy of considering Kashmir as not a part of India. Visitors to Tibet, especially journalists invited by the Chinese government, are given handouts where Kashmir is indicated as a country separate from India, reported the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) Oct 19.

The report said that Media kits providing "basic information" about Tibet says the region "borders with India, Nepal, Myanmar and Kashmir area". Likewise, Chinese made maps available in China, Myanmar and Nepal also show India without its Kashmir region.

China’s policy practice, in fact, appears to consider Kashmir to be part of Pakistan. China has a policy of extending assistance to only the government of a country. Thus, by extending financial assistance to the building of a dam on the Indus River in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, China considers the region to be legitimate part of Pakistan, the report indicated.
