Tibetan who distributed VCD testimony of Tibet's plight arrested

A Tibetan intellectual has been arrested recently for speaking out about the situation in Tibet under Chinese rule. Kalsang Tsultrim, who in 2009 distributed widely a video recording of his testimony, was arrested on Jul 7 at Dzoege (Chinese: Ruo’ergai) County in Karze Prefecture of Sichuan Province, said Dharamsala-based Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy Aug 22.

Drugchu mudslide dead fixed at 1,435, with 331 missing

The authorities have fixed the number of dead from the rain-triggered avalanche of mud, rocks and other debris which hit Zhouqu (Tibetan: Drugchu) County in Gannan (Tibetan: Kanlho) Prefecture of Gansu Province in the night of Aug 7-8 at 1,435, with 330 others still missing, as of Aug 22, according to China’s official Xinhua news agency Aug 22.
