As the tourism season peaks, there is a surge in the number of Chinese tourists visiting Lhasa, with tickets for Lhasa or Xining becoming hard to obtain from cities like Shanghai, Nanjing and Zhengzhou, reported China’s online Tibet news en.Tibet.cn Jul 9, citing travelchinaguide.com (China). The hard sleeper tickets bought mostly by immigrant Chinese had been sold out for the next 10 days as of Jul 7, the report said. The report said the number of visitors to the Potala Palace had been fixed at 2,000 per day, with the duration of the visit limited to one hour for each person. (A later report put the fixed quota of daily visitors at 2,300.)
