Tibet-supporting Indian parliament members meet in New Delhi

(TibetanReview.net, Aug10, 2017) – A meeting of the All Party Indian Parliamentarians Forum on Tibet (APIPFT) was held Aug 8 at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, with the participation of 15 members of the Indian parliament, said the Central Tibetan Administration at Dharamshala, India, on its Tibet.net website. They belonged to eight political parties of India.

The meeting was chaired by the APIPFT’s convener Mr Shanta Kumar. He described the APIPFT as the oldest parliamentarian support group in the world and also a very effective support group as well.

Deputy Speaker Ven Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok who led a delegation of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile to lobby for support from Indian MPs during the Indian parliament’s ongoing monsoon session, also addressed meeting.

The APIPFT meeting came at the end of a 10-day lobbying work carried by a two-member delegation of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile. The other delegation member was Ven Tenpa Yarphel. Altogether the delegation met with 38 members of Indian Parliament representing 15 political parties and belonging to 16 states of India.

Other Tibetans who attended the meeting included Mr Tsewang Gyalpo Arya, Secretary of the Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, New Delhi.
