(TibetanReview.net, Aug29, 2018) – Gyaltsen Norbu, the 11th Panchen Lama recognized and being groomed by China, has held his second Kalachakra teaching over Aug 17-18, with the venue being Dakpo Shadrup Ling Monastery in Lhoka, Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR). He last gave that teaching, his first, from Jul 21 to 24, 2016 at Dechen Kelsang Phodang in Shigatse. China used the large attendance at his first teaching, said to be made largely of conscripted crowds, as proof of the legitimacy of its choice of Tibet’s second most prominent religious figure.

China installed him in 1995 after taking away Gedhun Choekyi Niyma, a six-year-old boy recognized and proclaimed by the Dalai Lama as the reincarnation of the 10th Panchen Lama. The latter has remained disappeared ever since.

Dakpo Shadrup Ling Monastery is located in Gyaca (Tibetan: Gyatsa) County in the middle reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo River in southeastern Tibet.

He held a longevity Kalachakra, or Wheel of Time, ceremony for local monks and Buddhist followers, reported China’s online Tibet news service eng.tibet.cn Aug 28.

Unlike during the previous Kalachakra teaching, the report did not refer to any large congregation for the gathering. Rather, it was presented as being given alongside a routine monastic prayer service.

During the 2016 Kalachakra teaching, the eng.tibet.cn claimed that more than 426,000 devotees from TAR, Sichuan Province, Yunnan Province, Gansu Province, Qinghai Province, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Inner Mongolia had congregated.

The Kalachaka is the most sought after of religious teachings among Tibetan Buddhists and Tibet’s exile spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, has given it 34 times, starting from his first at the Norbu Lingkha summer palace in Tibet’s capital Lhasa in May 1954. Some 200,000 devotee attended his last teaching given at Bodh Gaya, Buddhism’s most sacred pilgrimage site, in the Indian state of Bihar, in Jan 2017.

  1. Just curious as to why the prestigious Tibetan Review, repeatedly posts articles on the Fake Panchen lama. Aren’t you inadvertently helping to propagate China’s the narrative that we consciously know is not true or is there an unofficial opinion among the CTA to negotiate with China via the fake panchen?
