(TibetanReview.net, May08, 2016) – The Speak of The Tibetan Parliament in Exile, Mr Penpa Tsering, is the new Representative at the Office of Tibet in Washington, DC. A notice from the Kashag, the cabinet of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), Dharamshala, said May 6 that he will take charge with effect from Jul 1 or when he gets his US visa, whichever comes earlier.

Mr Penpa Tsering was the losing candidate in the recently concluded election for Sikyong, the executive head of the CTA and the political leader of the Tibetan people.

Mr Penpa Tsering’s appointment came less than a month before the new, 16th Tibetan Parliament in Exile, of which he is not a member, holds its first biannual session at the end of this month.

Mr Penpa Tsering, born 1967 at the Bylakuppe Tibetan settlement in Karnataka state, was a Domey member of the 12th to the 15th Tibetan parliament in Exile, and got elected as one of two speakers in the 14th and as the speaker in the 15th parliament.

A graduate from Madras Christian College, Chennai, he also served as the Executive Director of the Tibetan Parliamentary and Research Centre (TPPRC), New Delhi, from 2001 to 2008.
