(TibetanReview.net, Oct29’26) – The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Tibet (APPGT) in the UK Parliament has on Oct 27 re-elected Mr Chris Law, from the Scottish National Party, as its Chair at its Annual General Meeting held in the Portcullis House, Westminster, London. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Hon Gill Furniss, nominated by the Speaker of the House of Commons as per the rules governing All-Party Parliamentary Groups.
Lord (David) Alton of Liverpool, Luke Akehurst (Labour), and Lord McInness of Kilwinning have been elected as the Vice-Chairs. Besides, Kerry McCarthy (Labour) was elected as a new officer.
Chris Law has thanked the members for placing their trust in him and reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthen the group’s work for Tibet in parliament. He has given a quick summary of the UK cross-party parliamentary delegation’s visit to Dharamshala, noting that the highlight was the special audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Representative Tsering Yangkey from the Central Tibetan Administration, representing His Holiness the Dalai at the Office of Tibet, London, has congratulated the group’s officers on their election and expressed high hopes from the group under the able leadership of Chris Law.
She has highlighted some of the recent highly disconcerting developments in Tibet under Chinese rule, including the shutting down of Tibetan language schools in Golog and demolition of over a thousand residences in Larung Gar in the context of China’s implementation of its so-called Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress, which she has said, poses “an existential threat” to Tibet’s distinct identity, religion and culture.
Kate Saunders from Free Tibet, which serves as the APPGT’s secretariat, has also briefed the group on a number of developments relating to Tibet.
