Daily Covid-19 cases and deaths in India increasingly below 10,000 and 100 respectively

(TibetanReview.net, Feb09’21) – Daily new Covid-19 cases keep receding in India with the country reporting less than 10,000 cases for the second time this month and the fatalities remaining below 100 for the fourth consecutive day, according to official data updated this morning.

The latest data from India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare show that there were 9,110 new Covid-19 cases and 78 new deaths in the country in the past 24 hours as of Feb 9 at 8 AM, taking their cumulative totals to 10,847,304 cases and 155,158 deaths respectively.

A total of 10,548,521, or 97.25%, had recovered while the number of active cases was 143,625, or 1.32% of the total. The case fatality rate remained at 1.43%. The percentage figures were mostly higner than those reported the day before.

The latest daily number of new cases, at 9,110, was less than the daily number of those who had recovered, at 14,016, leading to a decrease in the number of active cases by 4,984.

Ten states that reported the highest numbers of Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours were: Kerala (3,742), Maharashtra (2,216), Tamil Nadu (464), Bihar (400), Karnataka (328), Chhattisgarh (265), Gujarat (232), Madhya Pradesh (193), Punjab (192), and Telangana (149).

Ten states with the highest number of Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours were: Kerala (16), Maharashtra (15), Punjab (11), Tamil Nadu (4), Uttar Pradesh (4), Delhi (3), Chattisgarh (3), Madhya Pradesh (3), Uttarakhand (3), and Karnataka (3).

India is currently the country with the world’s second highest number of Covid-19 cases and the fourth highest number of deaths in cumulative numbers.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases among Tibetans in India, Nepal and Bhutan has remained unchanged for the fifth day at 1,519. Of them 1,449 had recovered, 29 were active and 41 had died, according to the tally of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) as of Feb 8.

Across the world the number of Covid-19 cases totaled 106,514,763 and the deaths 2,326,700, according to the tally of Johns Hopkins University as of 2:54 PM on Feb 9, 2021.
