Dalai Lama in Birmingham

(TibetanReview.net, Aug11, 2014) –A visit by Tibet’s exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, on Oct 26 to Birmingham, Alabama, will be the highlight of the US city’s “Human Rights Week” from Oct 22 to 26, reported al.com Aug 8. The report cited Mayor William Bell’s office as announcing tickets for the visit were now available online at birminghamhumanrights.com.

The report said the 1989 Nobel Peace laureate’s weekend appearance at the Regions Field will be the highlight of week-long activities which will see participation from schools, libraries and museums. There will be a public address by the Dalai Lama, which will be followed by a concert featuring musical artists accompanied by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.

A major event will be a forum titled “Beyond Belief”, an interfaith discussion between the Dalai Lama and several national religious figures, examining the common thread of kindness and compassion that ties people together, regardless of religious beliefs. The venue will be the Alabama Theater.

The report said this year’s forums and commemorations follow the 2013 “50 Years Forward” series of activities commemorating seminal civil rights moments of 1963.
