(TibetanReview.net, Jun28, 2017) – Tibet’s exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, is to spend his 82nd birthday of Jul 6, 2017 in the Ladakh region of Jammu & Kashmir state of India, giving religious teachings and receiving a long-life offering. He will be touring the state till Jul 30, reported IANS news agency Jun 27, citing his office.

“His Holiness will hold long-life offering ceremony in Leh on his birthday on Jul 6. He will also deliver teachings that day,” the report quoted a source from his office as saying. Leh is the capital of Ladakh.

He will also participate in religious ceremonies and deliver teachings at Diskit Monastery in Nubra Valley, Padum in Zanskar area and on the Shewatsel Teaching Ground in Leh.

The report cited the exile Tibetan administration – the Central Tibetan Administration at Dharamshala – as saying more than 10,000 followers, including from abroad, were expected to attend the teachings.

The Dalai Lama usually does not celebrate his birthday, with his 80th special one marked in the USA being an exception.

Ladakh shares border with Chinese ruled Tibet and there have been instances in recent years of intrusions by Chinese troops which resulted in prolonged standoffs.
