(TibetanReview.net, Oct24, 2014) – The head of the exile Tibetan administration at Dharamshala, India, Sikyong Lobsang Sangay on Oct 20 addressed the Foreign Affairs Committee of the parliament of Spain’s autonomous province of Catalonia. He spoke about the large number of self-immolations taking place in Chinese ruled Tibet since Feb 2009, totalling 132. He said the exile administration discouraged the Tibetans’ gruesome protest method but supported their demand for the Dalai Lama’s return and freedom in Tibet.

He spoke to the committee about the exile administration’s demand for “genuine autonomy” for Tibet and the absence of any contact with China since 2010.

The exile administration said on its Tibet.net website Oct 20 that he also met with Mrs Anna Simo I Castello, Vice-President of the Catalonia Parliament, which was followed by a lunch meeting with Mr Jaume Ciurana, Deputy Mayor of Barcelona City.

The Sikyong had arrived in Catalonia on Oct 18 on the last leg of his four-nation tour of Europe, following visits to the Czech Republic (Prague), Belgium (Brussels and Antewerpen) and the Netherlands (Amsterdam).

Catalonia has recently been in the news for its move, later cancelled, to secede from Spain through a self-organized referendum.
