India reports over 13,000 daily new Covid-19 cases after 19 days of less numbers

(TibetanReview.net, Feb19’21) – As its daily new Covid-19 infections crossed the 13,000 mark after 19 days of less numbers, India said it had vaccinated more than 10 million people against the pandemic virus by yesterday evening.

The latest data from India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare show that there were 13,193 new Covid-19 cases and 97 new deaths in the country in the past 24 hours as of Feb 19 at 8 AM, taking their cumulative totals to 10,963,394 cases and 156,111 deaths respectively. The number of the dead is a marked increase over the previous day’s figures for the second successive day.

A total of 10,667,741, or 97.31%, had recovered while the number of active cases was 139,542, or 1.27% of the total. The case fell to 1.42%. The percentage of those who had recovered and who were active cases showed a deterioration over the previous day’s figures.

The latest daily number of new cases, at 13,193, was more than the daily number of those who had recovered, at 10,896, leading to an increase in the number of active cases by 2,200.

Twelve states – same as yesterday – have reported more than 100 new cases in the last 24 hours, namely Maharashtra (5,427), Kerala (4,584), Tamil Nadu (457), Karnataka (406), Chattisgarh (276), Punjab (275), Gujarat (263), Madhya Pradesh (241), West Bengal (181), Telangana (165), Delhi (130), and Rajasthan (104).

Five states have reported 6 or more Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, namely Maharashtra (38), Kerala (14), Punjab (10), Tamil Nadu (6), Karnataka (6). The rest of the states have reported 3 or less deaths.

India is currently the country with the world’s second highest number of Covid-19 cases and the fourth highest number of deaths in cumulative numbers.

After remaining unchanged for 8 days, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases among Tibetans in India, Nepal and Bhutan has increased by 8 to reach 1,530. Of them 1,458 had recovered, 31 were active and 41 had died, according to the tally of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) as of Feb 19.

The CTA’s Cvid-19 taskforce has said at its 47th briefing Feb 19 that there had been four new cases among Tibetans in India over the past one week. They included 1 from Clementown, 1 from Rajpur, and 2 from Mundgod.

Across the world the number of Covid-19 cases totaled 110,349,428 and the deaths 2,442,694, according to the tally of Johns Hopkins University as of 2:53 PM on Feb 19, 2021.
