(TibetanReview.net, Feb17, 2014) A delegation of the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT), a leading support group advocating the Tibetan cause, especially for Tibet in the US government and congress and in some other countries, visited Dharamsala from Feb 10 to 13, led by its newly elected President Mr Matteo Mecacci, a former member of the Italian parliament. The delegation called on the Dalai Lama, met with the principal functionaries of the exile Tibetan administration and an assortment of Tibetan NGOs as well as Tibet support groups at Dharamsala and in New Delhi.

Mr Mecacci was accompanied by ICT’s US Board of Directors member Mr Steve Schroder and ICT Europe Executive Director Ms Tsering Jampa.

An ICT statement on the visit Feb 15 said the discussions during the visit included the strengthening of cooperation between the ICT and the exile Tibetan leadership as well as other Tibet Support Groups. The discussions also focused on strategies to bring the issue of Tibet at the center of international discussions in the context of relations between democratic countries and China. The situation in Tibet and rising international concerns about China’s policies in Tibet and in the international arena were also discussed.

The statement cited Mr Mecacci as saying the discussions were productive and hopeful and that all parties reached consensus on concrete strategic actions.
