(TibetanReview.net, Feb 18) – A Tibet Wildlife Zoo will be set up at Nemco Hill around Cona Lake in Amdo County of Nagqu (Tibetan: Nagchu) Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region, to promote tourism and develop the local economy, reported China’s official Xinhua news agency’s Tibet web site Feb 17, citing sources from the Nagqu Tourism Bureau.
It said the zoo will initially cover an area of 60 sq km and involve an investment of 160 million yuan (US $23.52 million). The area is habitat to wild yaks, Tibetan wild donkeys, Tibetan antelopes, Mongolian gazelles, blue sheep, snow leopards and others, totalling more than 100 species of wild animals, birds, and more than 300 kinds of insects, the report said.
The area is part of Changtang grassland in Nagqu.
