Three monks who staged a demonstration in front of the Draggo County government offices on Jun 6 were so severely beaten that they had to be taken to a hospital before they could be jailed, said TCHRD Jun 9. The monks have been named and described as Tsewang Dakpa, 22, of Jangtha Township in Draggo County in Sichuan Province, and Thupten Gyatso from Tawu County in Dardze County, and Jangsem Nyima, 22, from Dzatoe (Chinese: Zaduo) County of Jyekundo (Ch: Yushu/Jiegu) Prefecture in Qinghai Province.

The monks shouted slogans calling for the Dalai Lama’s swift return and Tibet’s freedom before security forces set upon them, kicking and punching them and using electric rods on them. All were so severely injured as to require being taken to the county hospital. Tsewang Dakpa, in particular, was considered not likely to survive. In fact, rumours about his death was reported to have spread in the county in next day while the other two severely injured monks had reportedly been taken to another hospital.
