(TibetanReview.net, Aug10’19) – A foundation established by Tibet’s exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, has awarded a total of 30 scholarships, including 14 renewals, to Tibetans pursuing higher level studies in Europe and the Americas for this year. The awardees were graduate and doctoral students enrolled in universities in the United States, Canada, France, Germany, and Switzerland, said the Central Tibetan Administration on its Tibet.net website Aug 9.

Each yearly scholarship per awardee is worth up to $10,000 and the total amount for this year was stated to be worth US$ 239,500.

The report said the awardees included PhD candidates in Cell Biology, Pharmacology, Law, and Comparative & International Education, as well as graduate course studies in Business Administration, Computer Science, International Affairs, Nano Electronic Systems, and Technology & Economics.

The Dalai Lama Foundation was instituted in 2011 and has since then disbursed a total of US$ 2 million scholarship money to around 160 Tibetan students in Europe and the Americas.

The report said that from next year the Dalai Lama Foundation’s Graduate Scholarship Programme will be administered by the Gaden Phodrang Foundation of the Dalai Lama based in Switzerland.
