Three monks held after protest in Pashoe County, Chamdo

(TibetanReview.net, Feb 2) – Three monks have been held by police in the evening of Jan 29 after two of them held a protest in front of the government headquarters of Pashoe (Chinese: Basu) county in Chamdo Prefecture of Tibet Autonomous Region, reported Oslo-based Voice of Tibet (VOT) radio service Jan 30, citing a monk of Sera monastery in south India. The protesting monks – Tenzin Choephel, 16, and Lobsang Gyaltsen, 20 – belonged to Tsawa Pashoe Mhera monastery. Anam, the head of the monastery, was also reported arrested apparently for failing to stop monks under his charge from protesting.

The situation in Pashoe was reported to be tense with people’s movements being strongly restricted.
