(TibetanReview.net, Aug09, 2017) – More than 8.6 million Chinese and other foreign tourists visited the Tibet Autonomous Region in the first half of this year, up 25 percent year-on-year and nearly three times the region’s population, according to China’s official Xinhua news agency Aug 8.
The report cited a regional tourism development commission statement as saying tourism revenue during the period reached 9.3 billion yuan (US$ 1.4 billion).
The report also cited a list of China’s top 10 summer resorts issued by Ctrip.com, China’s largest online travel agency, as showing Tibet ranked first.
The report cited tourism experts as forecasting more tourists in the following months than the first half of the year as the region will celebrate a series of events such as the Shoton (Yogurt) festival and the horse race festival.
