The authorities in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) crushed a series of conspiracies by the Dalai Lama clique in the past five years and maintained stability there, vice-chairman Ragdi of the Chinese National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee has claimed on Mar 9 on the sidelines of the annual NPC session in Beijing.

“We took timely, forceful and resolute measures in the past five years to crush a series of conspiracies by the Dalai clique,” China’s official Xinhua news agency quoted him as saying. He has said rampant acts of the secessionist forces were thereby battered and social stability maintained.

However, as noted by the report, he has not elaborated on the alleged conspiracies or the supposedly timely measures taken and the events on and after Mar 10 showed how wrong he was.

Ragdi, a native of northern Tibet’s Nagchu region, was taking part in a group discussion of the TAR delegation of the NPC deputies. He has claimed, as on so many previous occasions, and in unison with other TAR leaders, “Tibet is in its best period of development and stability in history.” In particular, he has described the Qinghai-Tibet Railway as “a historical monument the Communist Party of China has erected on the snow-covered plateau, a golden wing that facilitates Tibet’s social and economic lift-off.”
