“We, the Select Board of the Town of Amherst… recognize the local Tibetan community’s plea for justice” on this day and the board will continue to proclaim each March 10 as Tibet Day, the proclamation was quoted as saying.

The report cited Temporary Town Manager Peter I Hechenbleikner as saying the board had last issued such a Tibet Day proclamation in 2012.

The report added that UMass Students For a Free Tibet will hold a vigil outside the Student Union from 2 to 3 PM on Mar 10 to draw attention to the deteriorating situation in Tibet.
