US city declares Mar 10 as Tibet Day

(TibetanReview.net, Mar04’16) – The city of Amherst in the US State of Massachusetts has on Mar 2 issued a proclamation, naming Mar 10 as Tibet day. Also, the town will raise the Tibetan Flag and fly it from Mar 10 to 17 to “help cultivate awareness for all citizens of Amherst,” masslive.com Mar 2 quoted the proclamation as saying.

Mar 10 marks the 57th Anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising against the occupation of their country and the day also honors the more than one million Tibetans who have died in their struggle for the independence of Tibet, the proclamation was further cited as saying.

“We, the Select Board of the Town of Amherst… recognize the local Tibetan community’s plea for justice” on this day and the board will continue to proclaim each March 10 as Tibet Day, the proclamation was quoted as saying.

The report cited Temporary Town Manager Peter I Hechenbleikner as saying the board had last issued such a Tibet Day proclamation in 2012.

The report added that UMass Students For a Free Tibet will hold a vigil outside the Student Union from 2 to 3 PM on Mar 10 to draw attention to the deteriorating situation in Tibet.
