Covid-19 vaccinations in India cross 7 million as daily cases see increase

(TibetanReview.net, Feb11’21) – India reported increased daily new Covid-9 cases and deaths this morning – parts of daily fluctuations in otherwise downward trends – as the number of people inoculated against the virus reached 70,17,114.

The latest data from India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare show that there were 12,923 new Covid-19 cases and 108 new deaths in the country in the past 24 hours as of Feb 11 at 8 AM, taking their cumulative totals to 10,871,294 cases and 155,360 deaths respectively.

A total of 10,573,372, or 97.26%, had recovered while the number of active cases was 142,562, or 1.31% of the total. The case fatality rate remained at 1.43%. The percentage figures were mostly a bit higher than those reported the day before.

The latest daily number of new cases, at 12,923, was more than the daily number of those who had recovered, at 11,764, leading to an increase in the number of active cases by 1,051.

Ten states that reported the highest numbers of Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours were: Kerala (5,980), Maharashtra (3,451), Tamil Nadu (479), Bihar (419), Karnataka (415), Gujarat (255), Punjab (229), Chhattisgarh (222), West Bengal (179), and Telangana (146).

Six states with the highest number of Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours were: Maharashtra (30), Kerala (18), Punjab (14), Chattisgarh (9), West Bengal (5), Tamil Nadu (5), and Uttar Pradesh (5).

India is currently the country with the world’s second highest number of Covid-19 cases and the fourth highest number of deaths in cumulative numbers.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases among Tibetans in India, Nepal and Bhutan has remained unchanged at 1,522. Of them 1,449 had recovered, 32 were active and 41 had died, according to the tally of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) as of Feb 11.

Across the world the number of Covid-19 cases totaled 107,422,538 and the deaths 2,357,047, according to the tally of Johns Hopkins University as of 4:52 PM on Feb 11, 2021.
