Daily new Covid-19 cases and deaths in India back to below 10,000 and 100 respectively

(TibetanReview.net, Feb12’21) – After being above 10,000 and 100 yesterday morning, daily new Covid-19 cases and deaths in India are back to below these two numbers respectively this morning. Meanwhile the total number of people who had received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine had reached 74.30 lakh yesterday evening, reported the timesofindia.com Feb 12, citing the country’s health ministry.

The latest data from India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare show that there were 9,309 new Covid-19 cases and 87 new deaths in the country in the past 24 hours as of Feb 12 at 8 AM, taking their cumulative totals to 10,880,603 cases and 155,447 deaths respectively.

A total of 10,589,230, or 97.32%, had recovered while the number of active cases was 135,926, or 1.25% of the total. The case fatality rate remained at 1.43%. The percentage figures were mostly improvement over those reported the day before.

The latest daily number of new cases, at 9,309, was more than the daily number of those who had recovered, at 15,858, leading to an increase in the number of active cases by 6,636.

Eleven states that reported the highest numbers of Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours were: Kerala (5,281), Maharashtra (652), Tamil Nadu (481), Karnataka (430), Punjab (306), Gujarat (285), Chhattisgarh (254), West Bengal (217), Uttar Pradesh (175), and Madhya Pradesh (169), Telangana (143).

Six states with the highest number of Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours were: Maharashtra (25), Kerala (16), Punjab (7), Tamil Nadu (6), West Bengal (5), and Chattisgarh (4).

India is currently the country with the world’s second highest number of Covid-19 cases and the fourth highest number of deaths in cumulative numbers.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases among Tibetans in India, Nepal and Bhutan has remained unchanged for the second day at 1,522. Of them 1,449 had recovered, 32 were active and 41 had died, according to the tally of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) as of Feb 12.

Across the world the number of Covid-19 cases totaled 107,826,873 and the deaths 2,369,471, according to the tally of Johns Hopkins University as of 1:53 PM on Feb 12, 2021.
