Exile Tibetan leader lobbies for Tibet legislation in US Congress

(TibetanReview.net, Nov22’19) – The executive head of the central Tibetan Administration at Dharamsala, India, Sikyong Lobsang Sangay, has met with several lawmakers during his ongoing visit to the United States capital where the congress is considering a Tibetan Policy and Support Act introduced this year.

Many of the meetings were with lawmakers already familiar for their position of support for the issue of Tibet. The meetings included those with RepublicanCongressman Ted Yoho, Republican Senator Patrick Joseph Toomey Jr, Republican Congressman Tim Burchett, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman James Risch, Republican Senator Josh Hawley, and Republican Senator Mitt Romney.

Other meetings included those with Republican Senator Marco Rubio and Republican Senator Steve Daines.

He has spoken to them about the issue of Tibet and the gravity of the situation in the Chinese ruled Himalayan territory and sought their help and support, including in cosponsoring the Tibetan Policy and Support Act.

 He was stated to have given a public talk at The Heritage Foundation, a think tank, as a keynote speaker.
