India’s Covid-19 deaths lowest since May 1

(TibetanReview.net, Feb07’21) – India on Feb 7 morning reported its lowest number of daily deaths caused by the novel coronavirus since May 1 last year as the country achieved 57,75,322 vaccinations against the virus since Jan 16, the third highest after the US and UK.

The county is to begin administering on Feb 13 the second dose to those who have already received the first Covid-19 jab.

Meanwhile the latest data from India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare show that there were 12,059 new Covid-19 cases and 78 new deaths in the country in the past 24 hours as of Feb 7 at 8 AM, taking their cumulative totals to 10,826,353 cases and 154,996 deaths respectively.

A total of 10,522,601, or 97.20%, had recovered while the number of active cases was 148,766, or 1.37% of the total. The case fatality rate remained at 1.43%. The percentage figures were mostly the same over those reported the day before.

The latest daily number of new cases, at 12,059, was slightly more than the daily number of those who had recovered, at 11,805, leading to increase in the number of active cases by 176.

Eight states that reported the highest numbers of Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours were: Kerala (5,942), Maharashtra (2,768), Karnataka (531), Tamil Nadu (477), Chhattisgarh (260) and Gujarat (252), West Bengal (197) and Punjab (183).

India is currently the country with the world’s second highest number of Covid-19 cases and the fourth highest number of deaths in cumulative numbers.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases among Tibetans in India, Nepal and Bhutan has remained unchanged for the third day at 1,519. Of them 1,449 had recovered, 29 were active and 41 had died, according to the tally of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) as of Feb 7.

Across the world the number of Covid-19 cases totaled 105,803,694 and the deaths 2,310,237, according to the tally of Johns Hopkins University as of 2:53 PM on Feb 7, 2021.
