Latest daily Covid-19 cases in India highest over past more than five months

(TibetanReview.net, Mar25’21) – Daily new Covid-19 cases in India have crossed the 50,000 mark for the first time this morning in more than the last five months, reported the timesofindia.com and the ndtv.com Mar 25.

Six states – Maharashtra, Punjab, Kerala, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat – have been reporting a surge in daily new cases. They together account for 80.63% of the new cases reported in the last 24 hours, the indianexpress.com Mar 25 cited the Government of India as saying.

Maharashtra alone accounts for 62.91% of the total active cases in the country, noted the timesofindia.com Mar 25.

The report noted that the last six days had seen an increase in active cases by a whopping one lakh.

Besides, Maharashtra and Gujarat have seen the biggest-ever spike in new Coronavirus cases, reported the ndtv.com Mar 25.

The latest data from India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare show that there were 53,476 new Covid-19 cases and 251 new deaths in the country in the past 24 hours as of Mar 25 at 8 AM, taking their cumulative totals to 11,787,534 cases and 160,692 deaths respectively.

A total of 11,231,650, or 95.28%, had recovered while the number of active cases was 395,192, or 3.35% of the total. The case fatality stands at 1.36%.

The latest daily number of new cases, at 53,476, was substantially higher than the daily number of those who had recovered, at 26,490, leading to a big jump in the number of active cases by 26,735.

Nine states have reported more than 1,000 new cases in the last 24 hours, namely Maharashtra (31,855), Punjab (2,613), Kerala (2,456), Karnataka (2,298), Chattisgarh (2,106), Gujarat (1,790), Madhya Pradesh (1,712), Tamil Nadu (1,636), and Delhi (1,254).

Eleven more states/Union Territories have reported more than 100 new cases in the last 24 hours, namely Haryana (981), Uttar Pradesh (734), Rajasthan (669), Andhra Pradesh (585), Telangana (493), West Bengal (462), Himachal Pradesh (266), Chandigarh (249), Uttarakhand (234), Jammu and Kashmir (195), Jharkhand (194), Odisha (170), Bhiar (170), Goa (140), and Puducherry (125).

Thirteen states have reported 3 or more Covid-19 deaths each in the last 24 hours, namely Maharashtra (95), Punjab (39), Chattisgarh (29), Tamil Nadu (12), Kerala (10), Karnataka (12), Gujarat (8), Madhya Pradesh (7), Haryana (6), Delhi (6), Uttar Pradesh (5), Andhra Pradeesh (4), and Telangana (4). The rest of the states have reported 2 or less deaths.

India is currently the country with the world’s second highest number of Covid-19 cases and the fourth highest number of deaths in cumulative numbers.

The cumulative total of Covid-19 cases among Tibetans in India, Nepal and Bhutan has remained unchanged for the second day at 1,635. Of them 1,556 had recovered, 33 were active and 46 had died, according to the tally of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) as of Mar 25.

Across the world the number of Covid-19 cases totaled 124,908,585 and the deaths 2,745,964, according to the tally of Johns Hopkins University as of 4:56 PM on Mar 25, 2021.
