(TibetanReview.net, Mar27’24) —Police in India have on Mar 26 detained two young Chinese nationals who illegally crossed over from Nepal, claiming to wish to meet the Dalai Lama and also visit Bengaluru, reported the timesofindia.com Mar 26.

A man, identified as Zhou Pulin (27), a native of Sichuan, and a woman identified as Yuan Yuhan (22) a native of Chongqing, both in China, were stated to have been arrested at Siddharthnagar district’s Kakrahwa post on the India-Nepal border after they were intercepted on entering Uttar Pradesh state.

They were stated to have been intercepted by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), border security force deployed along India’s borders with Nepal and Bhutan. The SSB is one of the seven Central Armed Police Forces under the administrative control of India’s Ministry of Home Affairs.

The report cited Prachi Singh, the Superintendent of police, Siddharthnagar, as saying that the SSB had intercepted the two and questioned them in Hindi language. However, when they did not respond, the team questioned them in English language and again they could not respond. The SSB then contacted the police and district administration authorities.

Their passports were stated to be stamped with visas for Nepal.

Siddharthnagar district is located near Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha Shakyamuni, in Nepal.

“We informed the Chinese embassy and also sought help from some interpreters,” another officer was quoted as saying.

The two were stated to have failed to give any satisfactory answer for illegally entering India. They kept on saying they had visited Nepal and wanted to meet the Dalai Lama. They were stated to have been guided by Google maps and had even planned to visit Bangalore.

“We have booked them under the contravention of the Passport Act and a probe is underway,” the officer has said.

Police were stated to have recovered Rs 7450, US Dollars 10, and 53 Chinese Yuan from their possession.
