(TibetanReview.net, Mar14’19) – Police in India’s capital New Delhi detained around 150 activists of the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) after they protested outside the Chinese embassy, with some of them trying to storm it, on Mar 12. TYC was holding three days of protest rallies and other campaign actions in the city, beginning Mar 10, to mark the 60th Tibetan national uprising day.
All the detainees were released later in the evening.
The activists took out the march around 10 am from Teen Murti Marg and the detention took place around 11:30 am, reported the PTI news agency Mar 12. The activists shouted slogans and carried Tibetan national flags as they were chased, wrested to the ground, and rounded up to be bundled into police buses.
In the preceding days, the activists took out protest rallies from Central district to Jantar Mantar on Mar 10, and from Khan Market to the office of United Nations India on Lodhi Road where they submitted a memorandum on Mar 11.
