(TibetanReview.net, Dec31, 2017) – Pending the possible nomination and confirmation of a new Education Kalon (minister) of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) at Dharamshala, India, during the upcoming, Mar 2018 session of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, the Kalon for Religion and Culture has been given additional charge of it with effect from Jan 1.
The new arrangement, announced by the Kashag Secretariat on Dec 29, has been necessitated by the appointment of the existing Education Kalon, Mr Ngodup Tsering, as the CTA’s new representative at the Office of Tibet, Washington, DC, with effect from Dec 1.
Mr Ngodup Tsering replaced Mr Penpa Tsering whose unsavoury removal by a Nov 7 notice of the Kashag for alleged insubordination and trust and performance deficit resulted in a bit of turbulence in the exile Tibetan community, with his supporters crying foul.
The Religion and Culture Kalon, Ven. Karma Gelek Yuthok, is currently at the Central University of Tibetan Studies in Sarnath, Varanasi, for the premier Tibetan studies university’s 50th anniversary celebrations on Jan 1. His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the chief guest for the occasion.
