Exile Tibetan parliament begins its budget session

(TibetanReview.net, Mar16’21) – The 10th and in all likelihood the final session of the 16th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile began on Mar 15 to mainly adopt the annual budget of the Central Tibetan Administration for the financial year Apr 2021 – Mar 2022. Finance Minister Mr Karma Yeshi presented a budget of Rupees 2.699 billion.

Also on agenda, announced by Speaker Mr Pema Jungney, are 16 resolutions of official mourning, reviewing of the annual audit report, and discussions on legislations.

Although the parliament’s session is scheduled to be held for 15 days, the Speaker made it clear that given the worsening Covid-19 situation in India, which his now experiencing its second wave, there was no guarantee that this schedule could be maintained.

He also said it was possible that the business of the session could be completed in less than 15 days.
