(TibetanReview.net, Feb01’24) – The executive head of the Central Tibetan administration (CTA) at Dharamshala in India, the Sikyong Mr Penpa Tsering, has on Jan 31 held meetings and discussions and answered questions in the Seimas, the Lithuanian parliament building, on the issue of Tibet, said the CTA on its Tibet.net website Feb 1.
Welcomed by Andrius Navickas, Chair of the Parliamentary Support Group for Tibet, the Sikyong first met with the parliament’s Deputy Speaker Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė. He then addressed a press meeting chaired by Andrius Navickas, MP, joined by Professors Dainius Žalimas and Vytis Vidunas, along with the London-based Office of Tibet Representative, Mr Sonam Frasi.
After that, Mr Penpa Tsering has taken part in a roundtable discussion with Lithuanian parliamentarians, which was also chaired by MP Navickas. Those who attended it included several members of the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs and Economics Committees, including Žygimantas Pavilionis, chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee; and Arūnas Valinskas, who was a guest of the CTA at the Tibetan National Uprising Day commemoration in Dharamshala last year.
Among the participants in the roundtable meeting was stated to be Prof Landsbergis, the first president of post-Soviet Lithuania, who offered suggestion for furthering the Tibetan cause.
The Sikyong was also stated to have been interviewed by the Parliamentary Media.
Later in the afternoon, Sikyong Penpa Tsering has met with officials of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, undertook further a media engagement, visited the Tibet Square in capital Vilnius, and met with members of Tibet Support Groups in the country, the report said.
