US town to mark 65th Tibetan national uprising anniversary

Must Read

(TibetanReview.net, Feb25’24) – The Amherst Town in the US state of Massachusetts is to commemorate the 65th Tibetan Uprising Day on Mar 10 by flying the Tibetan national flag as a way to express solidarity with the Tibetan people living in exile across the world, reported amherstindy.org Feb 24.

The event will include raising the Tibetan flag on Town Hall, the reading of a proclamation by the Town Council, and a march from Amherst to Northampton along Route 9 and concluding in Easthampton.

The report quoted the President of the Amherst Town Council, Lynn Griesemer, as saying: “We are honored to host this commemorative event and have done so since our change of government in 2018. It presents a wonderful moment to acknowledge and celebrate the robust contributions of the Tibetan Community in exile throughout the Valley. We continue to stand with our neighbors and friends to acknowledge the difficult past as we look forward to a better future.”

Also, the Regional Tibetan Association of Massachusetts, based in Amherst, will observe this significant day with a series of events, including a “Walk for Tibet” — a symbolic peace march from Amherst Town to Northampton City and reading of proclamations and the hoisting of the Tibetan National Flag outside the Town Halls of Amherst, Northampton City, and Easthampton City.

“We urge all individuals globally who cherish human rights, justice, and peace to align with the moral imperative of history, to speak up against the human rights abuses in Tibet, and to support the Tibetan people’s struggle for the fundamental right to live in their own country, free from oppression and discrimination. We call on everyone to stand in solidarity with the Tibetan community,” Mr Tsultrem Kunsang, President of the association, has said.
